Monsters, Witches, and Ghosts!

I made this! Eek! A mix I made a while back and updated a bit recently. Pretty much just pop songs with themes of monsters/other frightening things and relating them to love and such. Most of the songs are within the last decade, but a few are from the 50s/60s.

the Crystals - Please Be My Boyfriend

“Baby, baby I just wanna be your one and only girl…”

This is a pretty rare Crystals song, which is unfortunate because it’s a great song. It was the b-side to “Things Are Changing” by the Blossoms. This is a Phil Spector song, though not much seems to be known about it.

the Crystals - He Hit Me (It Felt Like A Kiss)

“If he didn’t care for me, I could have never made him mad…”

I love everything about this song. The music itself is amazing. The main AND backing vocals are perfect. The subject matter of the song is a bit iffy to some people, but there is no denying (at least not in my mind) that this is a PERFECT pop song.

Patty Duke - Roses Are Red

“Then I went far away and you found someone new…”

Here is my other favorite Patty Duke song. Kind of cheesy, but still good.

Patty Duke - Half-Hearted Kisses

“Though I nearly fell for those lied that you kept on telling me, selling me.”

This song is so great and one of my favorites of hers. I’ll probably post my other favorite tomorrow. This song (and the one I’ll post tomorrow) are both from an album with a few songs she sings from Valley of the Dolls, among other non-Valley songs.

I also really like her song Please Don’t Stand There, but because it is almost a carbon copy of You Don’t Own Me by Lesley Gore, it kind of falls flat.

I wish she could have had a bigger singing career.

Skeeter Davis - I Will

“I don’t want to say I’m gonna cry my eyes out baby, but I will.”

Okay, “End of the World” was (and sort of still is) my favorite Skeeter Davis song. Then I finally got a ton of her songs in mp3 format as opposed to having them only on vinyl and I got to listen to songs I hadn’t heard before.

“I Will” is by far the BEST Skeeter Davis I’ve ever heard. LOVE IT.

This is my favorite Herman’s Hermits song! They’re amazing.

Connie Francis - Robot Man

Connie Francis was releasing albums from 1958 - 1969. From 1959 - 1969 she released at least two albums a year. That’s amazing. She’s talented and has a great voice.

Robot Man is one of my all time favorites of hers. Makes me want to dance!
